Truth and Reconciliation in The Gambia

This exciting participatory video project was organised by Gambia Participates, a youth-led civil society organisation founded in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election. We worked with a diverse group of young activists with direct experience of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations process that was initiated in 2018 to investigate human rights violations under Yahya Jammeh’s dictatorship.
Many of the participants were themselves survivors of the regime’s abuses, whilst others have used their skills and expertise to participate in the commission processes. Together the group made a powerful short film called Never Again, featuring music from one of the participants - local rap legend and activist - Killa Ace.
