Indigenous Territories

FACILITATOR / EDITOR

The Maasai community in Loliondo (Tanzania) live with the constant threat of mass evictions and violent attacks because 1,500sqkm of their territory was annexed by a luxury hunting block owned by the Crown Prince of Dubai.

My work with the community began in 2013 when I was invited by village leaders to bring participatory video methods as a tool for amplifying their voices nationally and internationally. We worked together on numerous projects over those years while I was at InsightShare (with funding from the United Nations Association of Finland), which continues to develop and deepen the work to this day.

The video below - titled Olosho - is their film about their land rights struggle. It continues to be shown around the world; helping to raise awareness of the human rights abuses suffered by the people of Loliondo.

Gareth is committed to Rights-Based Approaches to development and has been a skillful facilitator in our Participatory Video workshops. He makes sure that projects are executed with high level of professionalism, and ensures everyone has a great time while learning!
