FACILITATOR / EDITOR

In 2013 representatives from communities across the Ayeyarwady Delta region of Myanmar (Burma) were trained in facilitating participatory video processes. This groundbreaking capacity-building programme was the first of its kind in Myanmar, and is one of only two examples of participatory video known to have ever taken place in the country.

The objectives of the programme were to train facilitation teams across the delta region in participatory video as a community development and empowerment tool. Specific focus was placed on initiating processes to enable horizontal sharing (between communities), create spaces for participatory decision-making, and provide communication tools for local advocacy within a rights-based framework. I facilitated the capacity-building programme together with my former colleagues at InsightShare. The programme was initiated and funded by the Church of Sweden and implemented in collaboration with the Lutheran World Federation in Myanmar.

This video includes footage of the capacity-building programme together with extracts from the videos facilitated by the trainees.

When the participants filmed in their own villages, we learnt about their real situations, about their strengths and weaknesses.
